Oh baby its good to be back! It has been a hot minute since I have written in this blog, but boy do we got a banger today. On June 4th, one of my favorite bands in the metalcore scene released arguably the best song of 2021 to date. Not to over hype this song at all, but this one checks off all of the boxes for me. Its got wild guitar riffs, an incredibly catchy chorus, and a headbanger of a breakdown that will have moshups everywhere going wild.
When I first heard this song I was actually driving home from dinner and caught the middle part of it on XM radio. I was immediately hooked and could not believe at the time that I was listening to Memphis May Fire. For those of you that follow this band, I think we can all agree that “Broken” and “This light I hold” were forgettable albums to say the least. Yet for the next 48 hours all I could listen to was this song. I was watching reaction videos, I was watching the music video on repeat, the song basically consumed my life and there is so much to love about this track.

When looking deeper into who actually wrote the song, I was not surprised to see the name Cody Quistad. Cody is a member of Wage War, another favorite band of mine, and you can see the influence he had on this particular track. The lyrics tell the story of a close friend, maybe even a family member, that uses and abuses the main character. The dude tells himself that maybe he even deserves the pain and suffering he is being put through. Then suddenly they realize that this whole time they were just a victim to someone they considered their own “blood” and that blood’s not thicker than water afterall. Now thats some powerful shit…. If you’ve ever been in this type of relationship with a friend, family member, or someone you considered family, you know this feeling all too well and it definitely hits you right in the feels. In the end they put the nail in the coffin and cut ties with no love lost.
Some will say that this song is typical metalcore and generic sounding and to those who feel that way here’s two birds to the sky.
