Anti-Cheat

Back in August, it was leaked that Activision was actively working on an Anti-Cheat for Call of Duty. Not only was it in the works, but it had been in development for over a year. This development came at a time when Warzone players such as NICKMERCS, CouRageJD, and other prominent warzone streamers were choosing to stream Apex Legends over Warzone. Once the news become official in a September reveal for the companies upcoming release of Call of Duty: Vanguard, streamers slowly but surely began coming back to the game with high hopes that Activision would follow through on their word to eliminate cheating.

Fast forward to today when Call of Duty tweeted out a message to those who have chosen to cheat. The tweet from Call of Duty read, “Cheaters aren’t welcome. There’s no tolerance for cheaters. And soon you’ll know what we mean.” Rumors have began to to circulate that tomorrow, Activision will be releasing more information about the anti-cheat software. Although I am excited that about the potential for this software, I have serious doubts that an anti-cheat software will be the holy grail that everyone seems to think it will be.

We have to look at this problem in terms of dollars and business demands. As someone who runs their own business, I can tell you that money is the deciding factor in everything I do. Will it make me money? Will it make me more money? And when I found the secret sauce to making money, how do I keep that money coming? The producers of these cheats have not only found the secret sauce, they are thriving from creating and selling cheats at a monthly cost. Do you really think that an anti-cheat software is going to stop them? Ill answer that question with a question. Did the Colonial Pipeline hackers care that there was a cyber security system when they held that company’s oil supply chain for ransom?

I truly want to be optimistic about this whole anti-cheat thing, but logic is telling me that this is just a marketing campaign to keep the wolves at bay. If they can keep the community thinking they are doing everything they can to prevent cheating, then streamers keep streaming, their communities keep playing and micro-transactions continue . Like I said earlier its all about the money. Activision will continue to promote how they are trying to clean up the game and cheat providers will continue to create cheats to bypass these systems.

Do you think the Anti-Cheat will be a success or just a temporary W before the hackers figure it out? Leave a Comment below !
